Interview: Emblem3 Are Absolutely Not What You Expect (Video)

“I’ve been reading the Urban Tantra,” Wesley Stromberg says when asked what he does to make Emblem3′s tour bus feel like home. “It’s kind of like the Karma Sutra, but a modern version told from the perspective of this girl that lives in New York. I’m also reading a book about Neil Young. Everything that he went through is so inspiring.”

That’s the kind of dichotomy that defines a conversation with the members of Emblem3. On the one hand, they’re the So-Cal version of a boy band, with all the dashing good looks and skater-boy charm that implies. On the other hand, their biggest idols are Blink-182: for the music, the shock factor and the boyish sense of humor.

As for what else is happening on the back of Emblem3′s bus, Keaton Stromberg is mastering the new Grand Theft Auto game on his XBox 360 and Drew Chadwick is binge-watching Breaking Bad. They call it their lair and they’ve tricked it out with a mobile studio. The idea is that the former X Factor finalists, who are signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Music imprint, can write and record songs while on the road as Selena Gomez’s opening act, never quite slowing down their pace. Their latest focus is a new video for their current single, “3000 Miles,” a real tear-jerker of a power ballad.

Emblem3 Reveals ‘Spaghetti’ Music Video

CeleBuzz – Summer just got a little bit hotter.

Huntington beach bad boys/Last season’s X-Factor contestants Emblem3 are gearing up to for the release of their debut album Nothing To Lose.

The trio consist of brothers Wesley Stormberg, Keaton Stormberg, and their friend Drew Chadwick. While we first fell in love with the group’s off beat reggie-pop mashups, the group’s newest track “Spaghetti,” soulful melody might be our new favorite summer jam.

Since the show, the boys have been hard at work on their new album and released their first music video “Chloe” this past May.

The dudes are also set to tour with Selena Gomez on her Stars Dance tour this coming August.

Watch the “Spaghetti” music video below premiering exclusively on Celebuzz.

Is Emblem3′s “Chloe” Really About Khloe Kardashian?

Chloe

Yahoo! Music – Khloe Kardashian may not be returning to “The X Factor” to host Season 3, but there are some Season 2 contestants who clearly still harbor fond feelings for her.

A source close to last season’s fourth-runners-up Emblem3, who recently signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label and released their debut single “Chloe,” has exclusively confirmed to Yahoo! Music’s Reality Rocks that the single really is a love letter to the youngest and tallest Kardashian sister.
Some of the telltale lyrics to “Chloe” include: “Chloe, I know your sister turns everyone on/But you’re the one I want”; “Front page magazine/Everybody says that she’s the queen”; “She likes the flashing lights/I love the way that you like candlelight.” And so on. The entire song is an ode to a girl who lives in her sister’s shadow (a la Jan to “The Brady Bunch’s” Marcia Marcia Marcia). And it seems that Khloe is the modern-day Jan Brady, in Emblem3′s eyes.

“The guys would never admit it because they’re all shy about it, but ‘Chloe’ is totally based on Khloe Kardashian,” a friend of the hip-pop trio reveals. “One of the guys in particular was saying that she’s the coolest and hottest of the sisters. That’s where they got the term ‘She’s a Chloe’ from. It’s about girls like Khloe Kardashian, who get overlooked because they’ve got a friend or a sister like Kim who steals all the attention.”

As for the titular name’s slight misspelling, the source says: “They spent a lot of time with Khloe on the show, so they didn’t want to make it too obvious. So they spelled the song with a C. But it’s still pretty clear, when you listen to it.”

This news probably rules out any Emblem3/Kanye West collaborations in the future…but it’s pretty darn cute.

LA Times: X Factor’s Emblem3 score deal with Syco Music, Columbia Records

LA Times: X Factor’s Emblem3 score deal with Syco Music, Columbia Records

Emblem3

“X Factor” fan favorite Emblem3 have inked a deal with Syco Music and Columbia Records, the labels announced on Wednesday.

News of the deal shouldn’t come as a surprise to viewers. Week after week, the young Huntington Beach trio made up of brothers Wesley and Keaton Stromberg and best friend Drew Chadwick made teenage girls swoon with sunny renditions of other artists’ hit songs on the Fox competition series.

A fusion of pop, ska and hip-hop — think Sublime, only dreamier with washboard abs and tousled hair — Emblem3 were pegged as early front-runners but came in fourth place after a surprising elimination (country crooner Tate Stevens won the prize).

Pop & Hiss spent the afternoon with the trio late last year while they were still in the running for the $5-million recording deal through Sony Music and “X Factor” judge Simon Cowell’s Syco Music. Even with a few weeks left in the competition, the boys were already plotting what’s next — with the help of their mentor, Cowell.

“Going into the competition, I personally didn’t think it would go anywhere,” Keaton Stromberg, 16, said a week before the trio was kicked off the show. “I went in thinking, ‘Whatever happens, happens.’ It’s going to get us exposure, no matter what.”

At the time of the interview, the boys confirmed they had already lined up collaborators for their debut, which will arrive later this year, but said it was too early to reveal details. According to Wednesday’s release, a slew of hitmakers has been enlisted for the project, including Benji and Joel Madden (Good Charlotte), Jack Antonoff (fun.), Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub (One Direction, Nicki Minaj), Peter Svensson (The Cardigans), John Feldman (Gold Finger) and Kool Kojak (Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj). Savan Kotecha (Maroon 5, Britney Spears, One Direction) will executive produce the album, which will be the first release through Kotecha’s Syco imprint, Mr. Kanani.

“I think fans are gonna be stoked to watch us progress back into our style,” Stromberg said. “They saw us go through the whole ‘X Factor’ thing and saw that they didn’t lose ourselves.”

A source close to the group said they’ve also secured a deal with talent juggernaut Creative Artists Agency. The announcement makes them the first “X Factor” finalist to secure a deal outside of the show’s winner.

Before appearing on “X Factor” the band spent the last year gigging at landmark venues such as the Roxy, Whisky A Go Go, House of Blues and Hard Rock Café. They won Rock N’ Road’s Orange County battle of the bands in 2011.

‘X Factor’ loss could be Emblem3′s gain

Emblem3Pop & Hiss LA Times Music Blog – Week after week, Emblem3 made teenage girls swoon as the band played sunny renditions of other artists’ hit songs on the Fox competition “The X Factor.”

A fusion of pop, ska and hip-hop — think Sublime, only dreamier with washboard abs and tousled hair — the young Huntington Beach trio was also a favorite of the judges.

Yet in a move as puzzling as the success of the show itself, the band was eliminated, losing its potential spot in the final three to an underdog act.

So why weren’t Emblem3′s members devastated by the loss? Because these days it’s often better to be a finalist in a singing talent show than an actual winner.

Look at One Direction, Jennifer Hudson, Daughtry and Adam Lambert — all losers who ultimately ended up becoming bigger stars than the winners of their respective competitions. It’s likely that as this year’s “X-Factor” winner (country crooner Tate Stevens) signs a $5-million recording deal through Sony Music and “X Factor” judge Simon Cowell’s Syco Music, Emblem3 will secure a hefty contract of its own with the help of Cowell.

Cowell mentored the trio throughout the show, meaning that Emblem3 had the advantage of being developed by someone who’s mastered the art of catapulting acts from reality shows to the charts.

So it makes sense that the band — brothers Wesley and Keaton Stromberg and best friend Drew Chadwick — was eager for its run on “X Factor” to end.

“Going into the competition, I personally didn’t think it would go anywhere,” Keaton Stromberg, 16, said a week before the trio was kicked off the show. “I went in thinking, ‘Whatever happens, happens.’ It’s going to get us exposure, no matter what.” [Read more...]
